Becky Lynch: Heel Turn Gone Wrong

SummerSlam is done and in the books, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t going to stop talking about it. One of the matches that really stood out on the card was the triple threat for the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship. With Carmella hanging on to the belt for quite a while, fans knew it was time for her to lose. Unfortunately, the fans truly wanted a Becky Lynch push from the Smackdown Live management. And it looked like that was going to happen, until Charlotte was added into the equation.

The tension between Becky Lynch and Charlotte after she earned her spot in the title match was beautiful. Becky was able to work her character so well. She made it clear that she was not happy her frenemy weaseled her way into the title picture. Interestingly enough, fans were right there with her. Charlotte Flair absolutely deserves to be in the title picture. However, with Becky lost in the shuffle since winning the Championship belt the first time, it really is time for a new Champion. And maybe not one that we’ve already seen a load of times.

Even at SummerSlam, fans chanted their dismay after Charlotte won the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship. They also cheered when Becky turned on her friend, and cheered even more after Charlotte was crying on the floor. Too bad for the WWE, but they totally missed the boat on this one. Fans want Becky to carry the belt again so badly that even with her heelish character, they won’t stop cheering her. This new character change has given the fiery readhead a new, much-needed edge that has completely gotten over with crowds.

WWE Might Change Course

Because of this anti-Charlotte movement, WWE could be looking to correct their mistake. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the WWE is considering a double-turn angle for Charlotte and Becky Lynch because that is simply what the audience is asking for. Besides, Charlotte makes an excellent heel and it is hard to sympathize with her as a face. Becky Lynch, on the other hand, is being compared to Daniel Bryan. This could be a great thing for her, and with the support of the fans, could shoot her right back to the top of the division.

Additionally, it has been talked about that Charlotte and Becky will face off for the belt at Evolution. This is likely where the belt will change hands, and ultimately, fans will get what they want with a Becky Lynch face turn.

Ashley Sweetly Writes

I don’t know about you guys, but I like Becky Lynch as a heel. Sadly, it’s really hard to turn someone heel when fans are behind them 100% (see AJ Styles). I don’t know that the way to fix this mistake is by changing her once again in a few months. Instead, I’d rather WWE see this through. Maybe Charlotte just isn’t the person she should be facing off against, then. Like I said earlier, it is hard to sympathize with Charlotte whereas Becky is an underdog. I’d prefer to see Becky Lynch absolutely destroy another loved character to really solidify the new heel vibes.

What do you guys think? Should WWE continue to push Becky as a heel, or should WWE realize their mistake and try a double-turn? Would facing her off against someone besides Charlotte Flair help out her situation? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
