Madrid Loan Lunin To Leganes

Real Madrid have loaned out 19-year-old goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to CD Leganes. The talented Ukrainian arrived in Madrid over the summer from Zorya Luhansk. However, after the signing of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, the whites have a surplus of goalkeepers.

Lunin had become the starting goalkeeper for Zorya before making his move the to the European champions. As a result, manager Julen Lopetegui decided a loan that would give Andriy lots of playing time would be best for the teenager’s development.

According to MARCA, Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid were also interested in the young shot-stopper. However, Lopetegui feels the small club just outside Madrid would most likely give Lunin a starting position.

Consequently, Los Blancos are left with three experienced options in Keylor Navas, Courtois and Kiko Casilla. Navas and Courtois should battle for the starting spot. Whereas, Casilla may still exit the Spanish capital before the transfer window closes. In that case, Luca Zidane would replace the Spaniard.

Very much a signing for the future, club president Florentino Perez and coach Lopetegui will hope Lunin fine tunes his skills as a starting keeper in the Spanish top flight.
