Derrick Rose Starting New Chapter

It’s the start of the 2017-2018 season and Derrick Rose just signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After a disappointing lone season in New York he needed a new scenery. Rose was on what seemed to be a super team in Cleveland. LeBron James, Kevin Love, newly acquired Isiah Thomas and Jae Crowder, and coming off the bench was Dwayne Wade. Unfortunately, after inconsistent play, they decided to blow up the team.

Of the players traded/let go, Rose was one of the players that drew short straw and was traded. He was traded to the Utah Jazz along with Jae Crowder. Crowder made the roster while Rose once again was let go. Former MVP Rose was a free agent with no one wanting him. The youngest to receive the award now putting up shots in gyms with his own trainers waiting for the moment to redeem himself.

Time To Prove Himself

March comes around and he gets a call from an old familiar friend. Former Bulls head coach now Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau. By March 8th Rose found himself in the Minnesota cold with a new contract until the end of the season, which lucky for him would also mean playoff time. Also reuniting with former teammates Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson.

Being on and underutilized Timberwolves bench he still found to be extra productive in limited minutes. In just a little less than 24 minutes per game he was putting up 14.2 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game. Being the scoring presence that the Wolves have been in dire need of off the bench. May not have had the explosiveness he did in Chicago, but the creativity and knack to get to the rim was there. One of the biggest things though was he did it all without looking like he was afraid of injury. Sadly though it didn’t last too long since the Timberwolves got knocked out of the playoffs after 5 games by MVP led James Harden.

Summer Of New Beginnings for Derrick Rose

Contract now being up once the summer started Derrick had to wonder if he was going to return to the land of Great Lakes. Continue where he left off. June 30th rolls around and Minnesota made the decision to sign him to a 1-year $2.1 million contract. Giving him the confidence that he is still wanted in the league.

Adding to the new contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Adidas decided to give him another chance. They decided to re-release his signature shoes starting from the beginning. Doing a release tour in China where he is beloved still immensely. Adidas decided on that after noticing how popular his shoes still are in China.

Overall looking at his summer it looks like his life turning back around. The talent has maybe faded over the years due to injuries, but the heart and dedication is there. Maybe all he needed was a fresh start with familiar faces instead of going to where he thinks he could win it all. Derrick Rose is happy again and hopefully that will last.
