49ers Running Back Jerick Mckinnon Injures Knee

49ers running back Jerick McKinnon sustained an apparent right knee injury during Sundays practice. Insider Matt Maiocco reported that McKinnon grabbed behind his right knee after completing a play. McKinnon was evaluated by team medical staff and sat out the remainder of the practice session.

McKinnon has since undergone an MRI to determine the full extent of his injury.

Jerick McKinnon’s injury adds to the Niners’ injury woes. Second-string 49ers running back Matt Breida is also out after sustaining a shoulder injury during Thursday night’s game. Backups Raheem Mostert, Jeremy McNichols and Jeffery Wilson will likely see an increase in snaps.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, however, McKinnon’s injury appears to be less severe than previously feared.

With the first preseason game of 2018 complete, the San Francisco 49ers released the latest injury report. Thursday night’s game saw the 49ers come away with the win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Niners suffered a string of injuries during the course of the game, though, with injuries to even more starting players.

Coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that, at this stage, none of the injuries received should impact players into the start of the regular season. However, some players will now miss the remainder of the preseason to ensure adequate recovery times and readiness for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.

With injuries to players on both the offensive and defensive first teams, rookies now have the opportunity to step up and impress.
