Future For West Virginia?

College Football

As college football starts up, all teams are getting their standards, right! Some teams are even setting them higher than others. West Virginia is setting them high. Will this make them a better team this year?  What is the future for West Virginia this season?

What’s the Future For West Virginia?

The Mountaineers are needing to make a change after a 7-6 season. They have lost four or more Big 12 games five of the last six seasons. So, are they getting excited? What’s in store for the Mountaineers?

West Virginia will have quarterback Will Grier returning after a great 2017 season. Grier finished with 3,490 yards, 34 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The quarterback is a big matter in the Big 12, and Grier is an underdog Heisman Trophy candidate bound to put up big numbers this season.

What’s The Schedule?

The defense will also need to follow suit, and follow a nonconference schedule that includes games against Tennessee and N.C. State. It’s going to be a tough season for the Mountaineers with these expectations, and the pressure is on.

Here is a sneak peak of West Virginia’s opponents for 2018: Tennessee, Youngstown State, NC State, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Kansas, Iowa State, Baylor, Texas, TCU, Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers will finish up the season with Number 5 Oklahoma.

December 1st is the Big 12 Championship. Will we see the blue and gold of West Virginia in there?

With Grier returning, this could lead Kennedy McKoy to jump lead back after averaging 4.5 yards per carry with seven touchdowns as a sophomore. The strength is a strong receiving end. The Mountaineers proved that last year.

What’s Next?

Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson will return for a fifth season with the program, and the defense needs to be better after allowing 31.5 points per game last season. What do the Mountaineers need to do?

Linebacker David Long finished with 75 tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss, and the defensive line should be a strength around Reese Donahue and Ezekiel Rose. Keyword, the players can’t allow so many points for the Big 12 team!

The reason for such high standards is plain and straight to the facts!  Grier is the best returning quarterback in the conference.
The schedule is set up for a jump start. If the Mountaineers can take out Tennessee and N.C. State, they could be undefeated at the bye week. They have a lot to prove this year. West Virginia is 2-9 against ranked teams, in the last three years. What’s the future for West Virginia? How far will they go? Will the Mountaineers succeed and win the championship? Do you think West Virginia can succeed?
