Former NXT Champ Aleister Black Removed from TakeOver: Brooklyn 4

Perhaps one of the greatest feuds in WWE ever is that between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. These two men were the best of friends turned bitter enemies following Ciampa’s untimely injury. However, their feud has not quite cultivated to top-notch quite yet. And that might be simply because the NXT Championship belt hasn’t been on the line. Of course, that wasn’t quite possible since the NXT Champion was not Ciampa nor Gargano. Instead, the man at the top was Aleister Black.

The WWE looked to be heading into NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 by continuing the Ciampa/Gargano feud, but adding in another man as well. The match set was between those two and Black himself. Presumably, the NXT Championship belt would be on the line.

Of course, the WWE likes to sway its fans. In a huge turn on events, Ciampa had actually won the belt from Aleister Black a few weeks ago. This would be quite a change of momentum for the upcoming summer “match of the year” candidate.

Unfortunately, that hype would be short-lived. Aleister Black suffered an injury after being “crotched” from the top rope during a match. Due to that injury, Black had to undergo a quick surgery. Although the WWE did not acknowledge this injury, Dave Meltzer pointed out that he did not believe Black would recover in time for August’s PPV.

Aleister Black is Officially Pulled from NXT: TakeOver

Unfortunately, it turns out that Dave Meltzer was right. Earlier today, PWInsider reported that Black would not be able to compete this month.

Meltzer also stated that there was an idea thrown around that new NXT signee, Matt Riddle, should take Aleister’s spot as a mystery opponent, which would shoot him to instant stardom. However, that hasn’t been confirmed. Since that does not appear to be a likely choice, the once triple threat match is thought to go on as a singles match between Ciampa and Gargano.

Although there is no set time for Aleister Black’s return, we certainly wish him a speedy recovery. Perhaps this could even begin the road to the main roster.
