Mike Montgomery Shuts Out Royals, As Cubs Win The Series

Another quality start by a member of the Cubs starting rotation. Mike Montgomery shuts out Royals, as Cubs go for the 5-0 victory and the series win. It was a team effort in last nights win, starting rotation and bullpen did their job, and the offense got their hits when they needed them most. Mike Montgomery was on fire yet again last night. In his two starts in August, Montgomery has posted an ERA of 0.79. After posting an ERA of 5.57 the month prior. Monty has been such a big part of the team this year especially with all the struggles Chatwood had. And the trouble with Darvish staying healthy.

Montgomery Goes Above And Beyond

Generally in the type of role Montgomery has played all season. You don’t expect the world out of him, but sometimes you may be surprised at what you get from a bullpen pitcher. Posting an ERA of 3.66 Montgomery has also been able to keep the walks down as well. Which is something that was much needed at the time he came into the rotation. However, with Hamels now in the rotation, and Darvish coming back any time in the near future. Montgomery’s time as a starter may be coming to an end. However, I think it’s obvious he holds more value in the extended relief position instead of a starter. And once the Cubs are able to get Monty back into their pen, it’s going to be hard to come back on the Cubs when down.

David Bote And Company Lift Cubs Over Royals

David Bote since making his debut with the Cubs this season has been an amazing asset to this team. In the short amount of time he has played he has made a major impact in almost every game he’s been in. David Bote had the game-winning hit in the first inning when he tripled to right field scoring Zobrist and Heyward. Then added a third RBI onto his line in the fifth inning when he singled in Javier Baez. Baez had a quiet night at the dish going 1-5 with a single. However, El Mago did strike again when he made a beautiful over the shoulder catch to end the inning. Even when he’s not producing the runs, he’s saving them from scoring. This team has been playing very well together as of late, let’s hope the Cubs can keep the ball rolling.
