Ravens Open NFL Preseason With Win Over The Bears

After six long months, the Baltimore Ravens returned to action as they defeated the Chicago Bears 17-16 in the annual Hall of Fame game. Numerous starters were out as the Ravens coaching staff was able to get a look at the depth on the roster. Several players stood out, including both first-round picks Lamar Jackson and Hayden Hurst.

The first-round duo connected in the third quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass. Hurst led the team in targets and had three catches for 14 yards and a touchdown. Hurst will play a big role in the Ravens offense as a security blanket for whoever is at quarterback.

Jackson also showed his running ability with eight rushes for 25 yards. He had his struggles, as he was sacked three times, threw an interception, posted a 42.9 quarterback rating, and completed only 40% of his passes. Nonetheless, it was a stepping-stone in Jackson’s development as a quarterback.

Robert Griffin III did some positive things as he started the game for the Ravens. Griffin’s mobility was on display, as he looked good on several bootlegs and scrambles. He was sacked three times and threw an interception on a pass that went through the hands of Breshad Perriman. After sitting out all of last season, Griffin is hoping to earn a spot on the Ravens roster.

Linebacker Kamalei Correa was the best player on the Ravens defense last night. He had six tackles, three sacks, and an interception. The 2016 second rounder has yet to live up to his draft status, but last night he made his case for more playing time.

Officials also made it clear that there will be more emphasis on implementing the new helmet rule. The rule is sure to draw some controversy, and it appears the league may have tried to outsmart itself with this rule. The Ravens will host the Los Angeles Rams on August 9th in Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
