Ohio State Names Dwayne Haskins Starting QB

This year, Ohio State has one position that will have a new face manning it, and that position is quite obvious. Now, it may have been a millennium that J.T Barrett has been quarterback at Ohio State. However, the quarterback position is a position Ohio State hasn’t really needed to pay much attention to since J.T. Barrett has been that guy.

However, just recently, Ohio State names Dwayne Haskins starting QB. This move brings an end to one era and at the same time brings the start of a new era. Buckeye nation has seen a little of what Haskins can offer. On the other hand, they really don’t know what’s in store for them considering Barrett it no longer with them.

J.T. Barrett’s Career at Ohio State

Make no mistake about it, Barrett had one heck of a career as a Buckeye. The current New Orleans Saint had a career at Ohio State that some may say was up and down. In his four year career, he attempted 1211 passes and completed 769.

Furthermore, he completed 63.5 percent of those passes for 9,434 yards. Additionally, as a Buckeye, he threw 104 career touchdowns and was only picked off 30 times. His overall rate in college is 152.3. He was a versatile QB that also rushed whenever the opportunity presented itself. He attempted 656 rushes for a grand total of 3,263 yards. His career average per rush is five yards along with 43 career touch downs. Besides those specific stats, Barrett in 2015 won the Sugar Bowl and CFP national championship. In 2016, he won the Fiesta Bowl. In 2017, he won the Big Ten championship game along with the Cotton Bowl.

To top it all off, he finished his career 4-0 against the Michigan Wolverines.

What does Ohio State get in Dwayne Haskins?

Dwayne Haskins is now the starting QB for Ohio State. Haskins, during his recruitment, was the No. 7 pro-style quarterback and No. 91 overall player in the 2016 247Sports composition. On the other hand, Haskins is like Barrett. In limited action a year ago, he completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 565 yards along with four touchdowns and one interception. Additionally, he rushed for another 86 yards on the ground.

It’s important to note that Haskins played a pivotal role in Ohio State’s win over Michigan last season as well.
