Red Sox Acquire Ian Kinsler From The Angels

The Red Sox acquire Ian Kinsler from the Angels in exchange for Ty Buttrey and Williams Jerez. The Red Sox have also received some cash considerations in the deal. The season has not been going as most Angels fans had hoped, they are 13 games out of first place in the AL West and 9 games back in the wild card spot.

The Angels have finally made a move to perhaps start a rebuild of sorts. Boston has the best record in baseball right now. Currently sitting at 75-33, the Red Sox have strengthened an important part of their infield as Dustin Pedroia’s injury has kept him from playing much at all this season.

The Angels have received two pitchers in return for Kinsler. One being Ty Buttrey, who was the Red Sox number 19 overall prospect. Buttrey is currently pitching in Triple-A Pawtucket. He has a 2.25 ERA and 64 strikeouts over 44 innings pitched. Buttrey has a strong fastball and an impressive changeup. He is working on improving his control as his slider needs more work.

The Red Sox also received Williams Jerez, a left-handed pitcher who was ranked as the Red Sox 23 overall prospect. He also has a strong fastball as well as some strong breaking pitches. Jerez is also in Triple-A Pawtucket. He is another reliever and should be major league ready fairly soon. He has a 3.63 ERA and 69 strikeouts with 5 saves over 52 innings pitched.

This is an interesting deal for both teams, the Red Sox will obviously be hoping that adding a veteran like Kinsler to the team will help them coming down the stretch and in the playoffs. As for the Angels, their future should be quite interesting to watch.
