Nikolai Volkoff Passes Away

It was quite a sad weekend for the world of WWE. WWE Hall of Famer Nikolai Volkoff passed away at the age of 70. Volkoff had been in the hospital in Maryland for dehydration and other issues.

Who is Nikolai Volkoff?

Volkoff’s real name was Josip Nikolai Peruzovic. He was born in Yugoslavia in 1947. Peruzovic moved to Canada in 1967 to begin his wrestling for Stampede Wrestling. Later on he would become part of the AWA and WWF (World Wrestling Foundation). This is where his infamous Russian character, Nikolai Volkoff, came about.

During his time in the WWF, he teamed with The Iron Sheik, and won the Tag Team Championships in 1985.

Volkoff remained in the WWF on and off until 1995, where he semi-retired. He would make appearances in various independent promotions until 2016. At one point the Hall of Famer was part of the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-Seven.

In 2005, Nikolai Volkoff was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame by Jim Ross. Ross was later inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007.

My prayers and thoughts are with friends and family with this difficult time.
