The Pressure Is On Breshad Perriman At Ravens Training Camp

History has shown that the Baltimore Ravens have not had much success of drafting wide receivers. Three years ago, Baltimore took Breshad Perriman with the 26th overall pick in the draft. He missed his entire rookie season with a nagging knee injury. The following season, Perriman played a full season, but only produced 33 catches, 499 yards, and three touchdowns. Injuries once again limited his effectiveness last season, as he registered only ten catches and 77 yards in 11 games. With a shaky start to his NFL career, it was surprising that the Ravens exercised Perriman’s $649K roster bonus.

Perriman admitting acknowledged that he’s facing some adversity and that his future is a “scary topic.” The fourth-year pro elaborated on those sentiments as he spoke with reporters yesterday afternoon.

“You know what’s on the line; you know that everything is on the line. It’s kind of like a make-or-break year, but at the same time, you can’t put that extra pressure on yourself. So I just really want to go out there and get better every day and control what you can control. Go out there and get better every day and go hard and everything will play out.”

The front office has dedicated its off-season to improving the offense, particularly the passing game. The Ravens added the trio of receivers Michael Crabtree, John Brown, and Willie Snead in free agency. At the very least, Perriman appears poised to be the team’s fourth receiver. He’ll also face challenges in camp from rookies Jaleel Scott and Jordan Lasley both of whom were drafted in the fourth and fifth round respectively.

Although Baltimore declined Perriman’s fifth-year option, the roster bonus paid to Perriman appears to be writing on the wall for the former first-round pick. How Perriman performs in training camp will play a big role in him making the roster in 2018. The bottom line is that Breshad Perriman must overcome the adversity, or he’ll be searching for a new team next month.
