Luis Alexander Basabe Homers In The 2018 MLB Futures Game

White Sox prospect Luis Alexander Basabe homers in this year’s futures game. He turned in quite an impressive performance. Basabe went 1 for 3 with a home run off of Reds prospect Hunter Green in the 3rd inning.

Green’s fastball clocked in at 102 MPH, but Basabe still crushed it over the right centerfield wall. This resulted in 2 RBIs for the 21-year-old prospect. Basabe also showed off his impressive arm strength by throwing out a runner at second base from centerfield.

The MLB Futures game showcases some of the best players the minor leagues have to offer. With many players from the top 100 prospects lists participating, it is quite an honor to be selected for this game. Basabe had a great game, but he wasn’t the only White Sox player to play in the game.

The White Sox number 4 prospect and the 40th best prospect in all of baseball, Dylan Cease took the mound for Team USA in the 9th to help close things out. He was able to get a groundout from Leody Taveras and a fly out from Fernando Tatis Jr. before being replaced by Luis Ortiz.

At the end of the day, Team USA was able to defeat Team World 10-6. Some other impressive performances in the game came from Taylor Trammell, an outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds. In the 6th inning, he smashed a 438-foot bomb to right center that clocked in with a 107.9 MPH exit velocity. Yusniel Diaz from the Dodgers organization also had an impressive game, becoming just the second player to hit 2 homers in the futures game.
