How the WWE Universal Championship Should be Booked

Universal Championship

The Universal Championship hasn’t been defended on RAW for more than a year now. In fact, it’s hardly defended at pay-per-views.

July 25th (same as my birthday), will mark the championship title’s 2nd established year. The title is still very young, and hasn’t been defended that much compared to WWE’s second oldest title, the Intercontinental Championship.

What WWE needs to do…

If WWE is smart, they need to come up with a reason for Brock Lesnar to drop the title. And if the rumor is true, he won’t even be defending the title at WWE’s biggest mid-year event, SummerSlam.

The company might not care since they have their SmackDown Heavyweight Championship. But still, what’s the point of having a “heavyweight title” on RAW if the champ isn’t around to defend it? Sure, WWE might be trying to make the title more prestigious but the fans didn’t like the name or the title design since it was first introduced.

WWE should just promote the Intercontinental Champion to Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship Belt. After all, it is already written on the belt. Though it had fallen to the wayside in past years, The Miz really helped bring the title’s value back. And it was the inaugural champion Pat Patterson who unified the WWF North American Heavyweight and South American Heavyweight Championships. Additionally, the IC belt has headlined more than their Universal title itself.

People might ask, “What about the mid-card title?” if the IC title is promoted as the heavyweight title. The WWE Universe is already settled with RAW not having two single-person titles. The company really just needs to bring one mid-card title or tag team titles for the women’s division.

Let’s get back to reality

WWE should come up with something creative in regards to a Lesnar title loss. Like RAW GM Kurt Angle trading his position with an added stipulation in Braun Strowman’s MITB briefcase.

An added stipulation to the Universal Championship match

 It’s simple!

The briefcase holder can cash-in no matter where the champion is. That should be just like the previous WWE Hardcore Championship. That way, it’s easier for Lesnar to drop the title, and won’t even hurt his “unbeatable in the ring” persona. RAW will finally have someone who is really OVER with the fans, and the stipulation matches Strowman’s persona too. Meanwhile, the “Beast Incarnate” can ride off to UFC, and Strowman can have a proper feud with Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley.

As for me, I would just make the Universal Championship above all titles. The only way to challenge the champion is that the Superstar needs to have been a Heavyweight Champion for more than 5 times. That way, WWE could just hand the title to Brock Lesnar or even the Undertaker. The best part is, they don’t have to show up every month. Besides, the WWE already have too many titles on their shows. They could just move WWE United Kingdom title to RAW since SmackDown has the United States title.
