Hockey withdrawal has undoubtedly set in by this time of the summer. IIHF World Championships are over and the Stanley Cup champions were crowned almost a month ago. October and the start of the NHL regular season is so far away, but Da Beauty League returns July 11 for its third annual season. This summer tournament showcases NHL, AHL, and collegiate talent during 10 games. There will only be a little over a month until the NHL returns following the championship game on August 22.

The first four games take place every Wednesday night. The six remaining games alternate between Mondays and Wednesdays through August. Braemar Arena in Edina, Minnesota, hosts all Da Beauty League games. The league played its inaugural season in 2016 with a focus on providing “fast-paced professional hockey in a casual environment,” per the website.

The tournament is an opportunity for players to condition and stay game-ready for their upcoming seasons, but the emphasis is placed on fun. Game prices are low, promoting an avenue for fans who may not be able to attend other professional games. Single-day tickets are $10 each, while season passes are $60.

Fans can keep up-to-date with daily player announcements until the official rosters are released. The most recent addition to this year’s roster was Golden Knights defenseman, Nate Schmidt. With 33 players announced for the 2018 season, expect at least another 20 before the end of the season. Players can join after the start of the season if there are conflicts that prevent them from attending certain dates.

Notable names from the 2018 roster include returning players Jake Guentzel (PIT), Nick Bjugstad (FLA), Jake Gardiner (TML), Brady Skjei (NYR), and James van Riemsdyk (PHI). Guentzel led the league in 2017 with 23 points in eight games and tied Bjugstatd and Drew Stafford with 11 goals.
