Madrid Sign 19 Year Old Lunin

Real Madrid have signed 19 year old Ukranian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin from FC Zorya Luhansk. The Spanish giants announced the signing on their website Friday afternoon.

The teenager is one of Europe’s hottest prospects and after several big clubs had shown interest, Madrid won the race. On the other hand, Lunin probably did not need a lot of convincing by the ‘Galacticos’.

“Real is my favorite team. Of course, I would like to be there some day.” said the young shot stopper in 2017 according to Goal. Many would have expected the transfer since then, with his new six year contract catching very few by surprise.

Lunin became first choice keeper at only 17 years of age with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, his first professional club. Joining Zorya Luhansk last year, he impressed greatly in the Europa League and played a role in the clubs 4th placed finish in the league.

He made 28 league appearances in that time and made his debut for Ukraine, their youngest ever goalkeeper to do so. The Krasnogard native will now join the champions of Europe and adjust to life in Madrid.

Most expect Lunin to learn under Keylor Navas for one year, grooming as the Costa Rican’s replacement.
