The Cubs Lose The Rubber Match To Milwaukee 1-0

After a rough loss yesterday, The Cubs were looking to take the series finale and win the series. However, that’s not the way it went down; Cubs lose the rubber match. And go down to a 1.5 game deficit to Miluwakee. Going into today’s game, I noticed that The Cubs had not played very well against Milwaukee the other day. And was fearing The Cubs were about to hit one of their famous team slumps. Although it’s tough to say perhaps after just two bad games against an excellent Brewers team. There was one positive that came out of today’s game, and I will share with you later on in the article.

Mike Montgomery Was Brilliant Yet Again

I believe after this start it’s safe to assume that Mike Montgomery has an excellent chance at becoming The Cubs fifth starter. Going six innings while giving up just the one run on two hits and one walk. Montgomery has been precisely what The Cubs have been seeking. Even though he was pegged with the loss today, none of it was his fault at all. If the offense could have scored a measly two runs in this game.

That’s far more than what The Cubs needed to win this game. I’ve always thought of Mike as a quality starter, and now he’s proving me very right. Collecting an ERA of 1.14 in his short time as a starter. Montgomery, even though he doesn’t have the innings pitched. Is one of the best Starting Pitchers in the MLB right now. In his previous four starts, Montgomery has given up just three earned runs, three walks and had piled up fourteen strikeouts. That’s excellent work for someone starting out of the bullpen. Let’s pray and hope that Montgomery finds his way to the lineup.

Offense Get’s Shut Out For Second Game In A Row

Shut out for the first time in back to back games all season; The Cubs lose the rubber match by a score of 1-0. Out hitting the Brewers 6-4, The Cubs situational hitting has yet again cost The Cubs a win. Chalk it up to how young this team is? Or chalk it up to how many games they have played in these past three years. Whatever the case may be this team is either hot or cold. And these past two games this offense has been extremely cold.

Not to mention this offense hasn’t had any help from Kris Bryant in the power department. Which if he did have it, The Cubs might have well gone on a fifteen game win streak. Baseball is the greatest sport in the world solely based on its unpredictability. One day a team can bat .400 collectively, the next day they can barely manage to get a man in scoring position. Whatever the case may be, this offense needs to find a consistent groove to at least score 2-3 runs a game.

Player Of The Game

This one seems a tad evident off the bat. Seeing is that how The Cubs failed to score a single run, my player of the game goes to Mike Montgomery. He has been a force to be reckoned with since he has become a starter. Since Montgomery has become a starter, he’s been the best pitcher in baseball, and the numbers prove it to be true. With a little more work on how long he can go in games. And Mike Montgomery will be a for sure starting pitcher dominating any lineup he faces.
