After which, he will direct the first training session and on Friday he’ll debut in Sochi in Spain’s first clash against Portugal.”

Rubiales, said: “I know it’s a very difficult situation. I know there’s going to be criticism whatever I do.

“I’m sure this will, in time, make us stronger. I admire Julen very much, I respect him very much. He seems a top trainer and that makes it harder to make the decision.

“You can’t do things this way, two or three days before the World Cup.

In addition, the federation will hold a press conference at Krasnodar Stadium for the media to ask questions.

Hierro is the former manager of second division club Real Oviedo. This is his only experience ahead of a team. In one season with the club he registered 43 games with 17 wins, 10 draws and 16 losses.
