Cubs Complete Four-Game Sweep Of The New York Mets

Dominating The Mets in the first three games, The Cubs were looking to finish out their series with a four-game sweep of the New York Mets. And with Jon Lester on the mound, the probability of a four-game sweep was looking very promising. After grinding out a 14 inning game last night, The Cubs went into an early game hot-headed and ready to get to work. And that’s precisely what they did today. Securing the 2-0 victory and going ten games over .500 for the first time this season.

Jon Lester Was Pinpoint All Day Today

Coming off a string of dominant outing and quality starts, Jon Lester was looking to keep the ball rolling. And that’s precisely what he did today, taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning and not allowing a single run calls for a dominant start in my books. Jon was shaky at the beginning of the season like most players are at the start of a new season. He came around and had been pitching lights out baseball as of recently. Leading The Cubs with a 2.44 ERA and a record of 6-2 shows he’s okay and in ace form. Ranking twelfth in the league in ERA shows that he is doing his job and doing it well.

Offense Starts Slow, Then Gets The Ball Rolling To Secure The Win

After a long night last night, and an early game today. I was somewhat concerned about the offense and how they would handle themselves in this game. And I have got to say that The Cubs offense did a fantastic job. Getting hits when they had men on and fantastic overall base running proved to be the difference maker in today’s Cubs win. The offense these last few games have been excellent. Collecting 59 hits in the past five games and scoring twenty-two runs in that time span. The offense has jumped in the rankings, ranking first in- AVG, OBP, and BB. While also ranking fourth in the league in RBIs, SLG, and Runs. Ranking third in the league in OPS, and H.

Player Of The Game

I think it’s clear here that the player of the game should go to none other than Jon Lester. Going seven innings and taking a no-hitter into the sixth is what The Cubs needed. Especially after going fourteen innings in a matchup of the bullpens. He saved a lot of arms from having to be used again and deserves the recognition. Keeping the walks down and men off the bases are exactly what The Cubs needed this past couple of games.
