Cubs OutHit The Giants Winning The Series Finale 8-3

What a game that was, at first it seemed The Cubs were going to be down and out all game. After they went down 3-0 in the first inning, The Cubs surprisingly fought right back scoring three more runs, Cubs outhit The Giants and showed their force tonight. There were a couple frustrating parts of the game that I will get to. However, those ‘frustrating’ parts really didn’t affect the outcome of the game. Starting pitching yet again has been an inconvenience for The Cubs in the early going.

Tyler Chatwood Still Can’t Keep The Walks Down

Tyler Chatwood has had glimpses of greatness throughout the season. However, it never seems to stick and he’s back to walking more than five people a game. Walking five people in today’s start and giving up three earned runs. Is it time to start putting a question mark over Chatwood? The Cubs were hopeful in bringing him over from Colorado, in that in a bigger park he would thrive, especially with the wind blowing in. However, that hasn’t been the case so far this season, sporting an ERA in the low fours and a WHIP of 1.62 isn’t going to cut it for a full season. So, who would be in line to replace Chatwood as the starter?

The Offense Strikes Back

Going down 3-0 is never good, especially in the first inning of the game. However, like I always say “It’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish.” And The Cubs did just that today, The Cubs outhit The Giants 13-9 and were able to score eight runs in the process. It’s always a good sign to see your team come back early, and it didn’t affect their gameplan at all. There was, however, one scenario that frustrated me just a tad. And it was in the third when The Cubs had bases loaded no outs, only for the next two batters to strike out and the third popped out. That kind of situational hitting in my eyes is never okay. Bases loaded one out, at least one run needs to be scored in that scenario. However, the offense did great today and executed when they needed to.

Player Of The Game

Player of the game for me today has to be Albert Almora Jr. going 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. He also made a very impressive defensive play in the outfield. That in my eyes completely killed any momentum The Giants had left. Almora overall had a very good series against The Giants. And I think it’s time for Joe to make him our Starting Center Fielder. Almora has proven time and time again as to why he is the best option for this team in Center. And if the only way to get Manny Machado to Chicago is by trading Almora. I’d say let Manny walk and go play somewhere else. This kid is far too valuable to let go this early in his career.
