Cubs Bounce Back In Big Way in 6-2 Win Over The Giants

A rematch of the 2016 NLDS, The Cubs, and The Giants squared off in the first game of a three-game series. It was an intense pitching duel up until the seventh; then it became all Cubs for the remainder of the game. After losing two games to Cleveland, one a blowout and the other a gut-wrenching 1-0 loss. So a win today seemed necessary, seeing that the division is much tighter this year than the previous three. And that’s precisely what The Cubs did today, clinching a 6-2 win over The Giants, with a magnificent performance by Kyle Hendricks and the offense.

Kyle Hendricks Is Starting To Look Like The Professor Again

After struggling in his past couple of starts, Kyle Hendricks was looking forward and tried everything in his power to have a stellar outing. And that’s precisely what he did today. Through the first three innings, Kyle looked near un-hittable. Throwing just twenty-seven pitches in three innings, Kyle was hitting his marks and finishing batters. Kyle allowed only one run and two hits on the night. Both by the same person, Gorkys Hernandez had a home run and a single against Hendricks today. And that was Kyle’s only blemish on the day. Let’s hope this is a significant turning point for Kyle and that he can hold down the rotation when others struggle.

Offense Gets Rolling Once Again

The past two games The Cubs offense was held to just one run in those two games. However, they did combine for thirteen hits on the two games. So, it’s not like The Cubs weren’t able to get hits. Just like the past, The Cubs have had problems with men in scoring position and getting them across the plate. However, today that didn’t seem to be the case, scoring six runs on eight hits is an excellent way to get an offensive hot streak going. A lot of guys hit very well today, especially in the seventh inning, when The Cubs scored four runs. And it was started by Ben Zobrist’s substantial two-run double that ended up being the winning hit. Propelling The Cubs in a big way 6-2 win over The Giants.

Player Of The Game

Today’s player of the game shouldn’t come as much as a surprise. It goes to the one and only Professor Hendricks, who seemed on point today and nearly un-hittable. Baseball is a sport of mental strength and struggling is not an easy task to overcome. However, The Professor did just that and dominated the zone all day today, minus the two hits and two walks. He looked like the Hendricks of old, and I sure do hope he’s here to stay.
