Tag Team Division

According to the PW Insider, the WWE has seemingly lost interest and simply does not care about their Tag Team Division. That’s based on the way they are being booked.

Mike Johnson of PW Insider indicates that the reason behind WWE not putting any effort on the entire division anymore is because they don’t really generate huge money for the company.

“I think they have decided that nobody involved in the tag division is worth their time and they’re not going to invest into it because they don’t think it makes them any money. And that’s that.”

(That’s the quote from Ringside News).

A Kid among Men…

Some say it all started when Braun Strowman and some kid beat The Bar clean for the RAW Tag Team Championship Titles at WrestleMania 34. But at least the kid did not pin either one from The Bar.

I was “all in” for that and even wrote an article about it because WWE is all about publicity. Well, the titles were relinquished the following night on RAW. Then, they were won by the Deleters of Worlds. And you’d think that’s the time the creative team would push them.

Meanwhile, SmackDown Live has a stronger storyline with their title holders. The Usos and The New Day feud was entertaining to watch, and The Bludgeon Brothers holding the titles aren’t a bad thing, either.

Writer’s View: What Happened?

Why a sudden loss of interest in that division? Is it really about the money and the merchandise sales? I think starting from the Golden era, WWE hasn’t really pushed the tag teams. For example, The British Bulldogs, Hart Foundation, Demolition, The Rockers, and Legion of Doom. But WWE (formerly WWF) also did not give much of a push on their merchandise or storylines back in those days.

A Tag Team Division that stands out…

The only time it was properly pushed was in the Attitude Era, having big names like The Undertaker, Stone Cold, The Rock, Mankind, Shawn Michaels and Triple H. But the real hard work goes to some true tag team legends like Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boyz, and The Hardy Boyz. Those are the six people who single-handedly made TLC famous.

What’s my point!?

Well, WWE just needs to hire people who know about tag team more than any of the other writers that the company is over-paying. SmackDown Live has Road Dogg, but should allow him to focus only on the tag team division.

Meanwhile, they should hire another veteran. Say D-Von, for example. Let D-Von take the RAW’s division. Or, just merge the two brands’ tag teams together. They could bring back the classic tag titles. They already have co-PPV’s, they might as well have only one traveling between the two brands.

That way, there aren’t so many titles floating around. WWE can finally present the new Women’s Tag Team Titles (with the same stipulation) in the company. This will bring much more excitement for the fans. And the tag teams can have a purpose to challenge one another.

They should NOT bring tag titles for the cruiserweights too. This will just devalue the true titles more. Just let them take part in the tag team number 1 contender’s match with other major teams.

Should the Tag Team Division also include Cruiserweights?

Yes! Why not?

Don’t forget the likes of some smaller guys like Rey Mysterio and great Eddie Guerrero proved that they can hang with the big boys. Each even won the World Heavyweight title respectively.

The only titles that WWE needs to bring out are for the Women’s Division. One is the mid-card (TV Championship) and another is the Tag Team.

So WWE, I do hope you gave a reboot on this division, and make it much more entertaining. Because it’s just going to be a waste of A+ talents in that division if WWE do not want to move forward.
