Cincinnati Reds Win Game One Off Of A Walk-Off Walk

The Cubs and Reds are scheduled to play a doubleheader today. The first game has been completed, and it didn’t go in the Cubs favor at all. A back and forth game all the way through, neither team was giving up and ended in a walk-off walk. There are a few ways worse to lose than a walk-off walk. Costly defense cost the Cubs yet again a couple more key runs. While the offense had a big problem getting runs home when they needed to. Kyle Hendricks didn’t have his best outing either. However, he didn’t get much support from the offense. There are a few positives to take away from this game and will be mentioned later in the article.

Kyle Hendricks Inability To Go Deep And Lack Of Run Support

Kyle Hendricks in his past couple of starts had started to look a lot better. And a lot of us were hoping he would expand on the quality starts. However, Kyle wasn’t able to accomplish the feat and only went 5.0 IP. Not to say he didn’t produce at all if the Cubs offense would have been able to capitalize on the twenty base runners they had in this game. The defense didn’t help either, seeing that a run scored because of an error by Addison Russell. Our pitchers haven’t had the best support this season, and to think the starters have the stats they do is impressive in my books.

Kyle Hendricks Final Line- 5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO and an ERA of 3.40

Offensive Blunders, And A Lot Of Missed Opportunities

Typically when a team puts twenty men on base throughout a game, they will most definitely win. Although that is not the case for the Chicago Cubs, who had twenty men on base today. And only managed to scrape out four runs. I have talked about the inconsistency from all parts of this team except the bullpen.

And we all think it’s going to come together at some point and it doesn’t. The Cubs still seem to have a major problem with getting men home who are in scoring position. I saw a stat saying the Cubs today were 1-16 with men in scoring position in today’s game. That kind of play is not going to win you a World Series, hell it won’t even win you a division. So, I’m not entirely sure what this team needs but they need a boost. And maybe Manny Machado is just the man to give us that boost.

Player Of The Game

In a losing effort, today’s player of the game goes to Ian Happ. Scoring two of the Cubs four runs, one a home run and the other being a ball hit by Kyle Hendricks that scored Happ from third. Happ went 3-4 today with a home run, a double and a triple. Would have been nice for Ian to complete the cycle with a walk-off single. Then go right into the next game and do it all over again.
