Cubs Complete The Sweep Against The Miami Marlins

After squeaking out a win in yesterday’s 4-3 victory. The Cubs were hoping to keep the ball rolling, and that’s precisely what they did today. Cubs Complete the sweep after scoring thirteen runs on seventeen hits today, the offense certainly seems to be out of their slump. And The Cubs played to their expectations against Miami in this three-game series. Dominating on all sides of the ball, The Marlins never seemed to have a chance against the red-hot Cubs offense. A lot of great things came out of this series, and hope that it continues into the weekend series against The White Sox.

Pitching

Quintana had yet another good start today. Quintana could have gone more than six innings in this start, but early inning struggles inflated the pitch count and limited him to the sixth inning. He didn’t have the best command on his fastball which is arguably his most dominant pitch. Jose did allow just five hits and one earned run, walking two and striking out five batters. The lone run he gave up was a solo shot by Justin Bour. Quintana seems to be hitting his groove and is looking more comfortable on the mound. He did face a demolished Miami offense, so it’s not the most impressive, but it makes you feel comfortable moving forward.

Offense

After the Cubs scorched the Marlins for fourteen runs in the first game a lot of us were concerned that the offense was going to slump. The Cubs didn’t light up the scoreboard in game two, but their situational hitting was a lot better compared to past games. The offense today went off again for thirteen runs on seventeen hits, and there were a few milestones in today’s game. First off the most important in my eyes was Kris Bryant hitting his 100th career home run in the first inning. Kris also became the fastest Cub to reach 100 home runs in his career. And thinking about all the historic sluggers in Cubs history that’s elite company to be a part of. The Cubs Complete the sweep against the Marlins and will move onto the White Sox and try to take the Central back over.

Player Of The Game

Almost everyone who played today is deserving of player of the game, but there is one man who stuck out above the rest. And that man is none other than our team captain Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo went 3-5 with five runs batted in and two runs scored. Anthony busted the game wide open in the third inning blasting the first pitch into right-center making the score 6-0. Anthony is starting to heat up at the plate. Now it’s not ideal, but Rizzo did raise his AVG significantly from around .180 to now at .210. Let’s hope that can keep it going because much like Fowler when Rizzo goes they all go.
