Cubs Set To Face The Cardinals In The Series Finale

Series Finale day in St. Louis, the last game for The Cubs to stop the Cardinals from sweeping them. Yesterday’s loss was extremely disappointing, taking a two-run lead into the ninth inning with Brandon Morrow on the mound almost seems like a sure thing.  However it was far from a sure thing, The Cardinals tied the game in the ninth and went on to walk it off in the tenth. Today is a new day and hopefully an entirely new Cubs team. Jon Lester is set to take the mound tonight for The Cubs and looks to build off his last start. In which he was only able to go 5.2 IP, but just gave up five hits and two runs none earned.

Starting Pitching

Jon Lester comes into today’s game with a 2.73 ERA and a 2-1 W-L record. Jon hasn’t been able to go very long in any of his starts except for one. In which he went 7.0 IP but did give up three runs on four hits. Jon hasn’t been so much up and down this season, as much as just being stagnant in his production from start to start. Jon does have a lot of unearned runs in his starts, which could be a significant contributor to his inability to go late into games. Lester’s competition tonight is someone he has faced off against many times before. It’s Cardinals pitcher Micheal Wacha, who comes in with a 3.62 ERA and a 4-1 record while on the bump.

Jon Lester Final Line(prediction)- 5.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB and 5 SO

Offense

In yesterday’s game the Cubs offense for the first time in a long time where able to score more than three runs in a game. And yet it still wasn’t enough for them to get the win against The Cardinals. There are a few key players that seem to be heating up at the plate. The biggest one for me being Anthony Rizzo, in his past four games, Anthony is 6-17 with three home runs and a .353 AVG. The team starts and ends with Anthony, so if anyone can get these guys going its going to be him. Let’s hope it happens sooner than later.
