The Real Reason Paige is SmackDown Live‘s General Manager

Former NXT Women’s Champion and Divas Champion, Paige, sure has had a rough time in the past few years. Between injuries, a terribly publicized relationship with Alberto Del Rio, and leaked photographs, the girl couldn’t seem to catch a break.

When she returned to the WWE after she was reportedly cleared to compete, fans welcomed her back with open arms. However, that return would be short-lived after suffering yet another spinal injury, forcing her out of action again. Unfortunately, early reports showed that Paige would be forced to retire from there. Yet, she still stayed around as a manager-type role to Absolution.

But the RAW after WrestleMania proved that those early reports were initially correct. We knew it was coming, but we still didn’t want to hear it. The “anti-diva” formally retired from in-ring competition.

SmackDown Live Needs a GM

In a curious turn of events, however, former SmackDown Live General Manager, Daniel Bryan, was cleared to return to action. That left the GM spot open for someone. And who better for the job than our favorite raven-haired Superstar?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the decision was made by Vince McMahon himself to keep Paige on television. The reason behind this move was to give her plenty of air time. After all, the WWE promoted the film Fighting With My Family quite a bit during WrestleMania weekend. That film, as you may recall, is about Paige’s life. It’s being produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Management initially worried that letting her leave for good would hurt the movie, which WWE has clearly put a lot of time, effort, and funds into.

Fighting With My Family is set to release in early 2019.
