France Football apologizes to Andres Iniesta

Paris, France – Perhaps one of biggest snubs in soccer was when Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or in 2010 over Andres Iniesta and for this France Football apologizes. “Forgive us, Andres, says the article.

The head of the prestigious French magazine, Pascal Ferre, has written a ‘mea culpa’ and demonstrates his regret Iniesta never won the Ballon d’Or. The apologetic title came on the heels of Iniesta’s magnificent performance on Saturday in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla. Additionally, Ferre referred to him as ‘the best controller of a game the world has ever seen’. “Most of his contemporaries complicate life (…) but over 15 years he simplified everything. With no conceited thinking (…) he brought the game to life,” wrote the Gallic journalist.

Furthermore, he highlighted the decisive contribution of Iniesta to the success of other players.

“Without him, Messi would have tired much faster at Barça (…) His talent is making it work for others”.

Iniesta finished second in the voting behind Messi and in front of Xavi Hernandez. That hear, however, Iniesta scored what was the game-winning-goal in the final against Netherlands in South Africa.

“For us, he wasn’t just a player, he was the player. His sacrifices for the team ultimately deprived him of greater individual recognition.

“Of all the absences on the list of Ballon d’Or winners, his is particularly painful. We can only hope he has an special campaign at the World Cup in Russia and repair this democratic anomaly.”
