Cubs Split Two Game Series Against Division Rival Cardinals

What a game am I right? The game on Thursday was a perfect example of how the Cubs should be playing on a daily basis. There wasn’t anything I saw that I didn’t like, Lester had a very impressive start to end the homestand against the rival Cardinals, and the offense was actually able to convert base runners into runs and not hit into any hurting double plays. The most impressive thing about today’s game was none other than Mr. Baez or El Mago. Whichever you prefer, he was a beast today and has been hitting the ball very well these past couple of games.

Pitching

In my eyes, the player of the game, Jon Lester had an amazing start after struggling in his last start giving up 4 runs, although the Cubs were able to win that game as well. It also didn’t hurt that Jon had gotten a good amount of run support early. Lester took a no-no into the 5th inning but was ended with a 1 out, line drive single by Jedd Gyorko. Besides the 2 hits and the 1 unearned run, Lester was pretty much perfect the entire start. Lester who went 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB and 7 SO was able to qualify for the win and he got it. Lester improves to 2-0 on the season with a 3.10 ERA.

Offensive outburst

What can I say about the Cubs offense today except “magnificent” the entire line up looked locked in today with everyone (even Jon Lester) getting a hit against the rival Cardinals. And it wasn’t just solo shots all day either. It was a balance of small ball and long ball, Cubs hit 1 HR and it was by Jason Heyward. He ripped a 2-run home run to right center for his second home run of the season. Anthony Rizzo also had a very good day. Going 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI, it’s good to see Rizzo not struggle a the plate. Also, a very big boost to have him back in the lineup may give this team the edge they need.

Javier Baez also had a chance to prove himself, being moved to the two hole. And he delivered in his first at-bat. Scorching a ball to center field with a 1 out triple in the first. And was able to eventually score on a ground ball by Kris Bryant. Baez went 2-5 with a triple and a single and also scored two runs in the game. Overall everything in this game was a very positive sign for the future. Let’s just hope that we can keep up the consistency, and there would be no question that the Cubs easily win the division.
